Hong Kong Family Offices

Jan 1, 2024

Family offices in Hong Kong are corporations that offer financial services, including asset management and estate planning, to families. They can be classified as either single family offices, serving a single family, or multi-family offices, catering to multiple high net worth families. While there is no specific licensing regime exclusively for family offices, they are subject to the same licensing requirements as other entities involved in regulated activities. Under the Securities and Futures Ordinance, a unified licensing regime covers various regulated activities, with exceptions for securities margin financiers. It is crucial for family offices to understand their licensing obligations, and the Securities and Futures Commission provides guidance in this regard.
